IMPORTANT NOTICE:
(1) Since May 7, 2020, all users requesting consular services HAVE TO BOOK AN APPOINTMENT BEFORE VISITING THE EMBASSY. Such requests should be preferably done at least two working days prior the expected appointment date.
(2) Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the Embassy is working everyday alternating on-site and remote work. Applications for visas and other consular services should be send to the Embassy preferably by Postal mail, express mail services, or drop directly in the mailbox at the Embassy premises.
(3) For those wishing to visit the Embassy, the Consular Section only welcomes IN-PERSON VISITS ON WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY FROM 9:30 TO 14:00, AND EXCLUSIVELY ON APPOINTMENT.
(4) Within the Embassy’s premises, wearing a face mask, practicing social and regular disinfection of hands are not optional
VISA APPLICATION
- A valid visa is required for travel to Cameroon from Japan.
- Visa Application Forms can be obtained at the Embassy or be downloaded at: VISA APPLICATION FORM
- Types of visas: Ordinary visa (Tourism, Business, studies, conferences & seminars, visit to relatives); Diplomatic Visa and Official Visa.
- Please indicate the type of visa (ordinary, diplomatic, official).
- Visa application will be given consideration within 13 working days for normal processing and 04 working days for emergency processing. Diplomatic, courtesy and official visas are being handled under normal processing.
- The first entry into Cameroon has to take place within a period of six (6) months as from the date of visa issue.
- There are cases in which additional documents may be requested following the submission of application.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR VISA APPLICATION
ATTENTION (provisional & compulsory requests)
(A) In addition to the usual requirements for visa application, each applicant have to submit a Covid-19 PCR test result(original) of maximum 7 days older or a vaccination certificate.
(B) Also, when traveling to Cameroon each person will be requested to provide a Covid-19 negative PCR test results not older than 3 days at the arrival airports (Yaounde, Douala).
(C) And also, when traveling to Cameroon, each person will be requested to make a Covid-19 PCR test before leaving (Yaounde, Douala) and it costs 30.000 FCFA.
1. | Passport [valid for at least six (6) months] + colored copy of the information page. |
2. | Visa application form duly filled. When filling the application, the signature must be the same as the one in the traveler’s passport. |
3. | Passport-size photograph (color with name of applicant at the back) affixed on the application form. |
4. | National identification card of the country of nationality, My Number Card, Driving License /Residence card for others for tourist visa and family visit. |
5. | Hotel reservation or invitation letter legalized by Police Station. |

9. | Proof of sufficient income/revenue or financial support, certificate of balance issued by your bank; |
10. | For married applicant(s) who intend to go to Cameroon on a long term basis, the Embassy could request him/her/(them) to furnish proof of his/hers/(their) marital status. |
For Students, Researchers and Conference Attendees
In addition to the general requirements for visa applicants, they would be required to provide an attestation from a Japanese academic institution and a letter of admission or invitation from a Cameroonian Academic Institution.
For those joining their position/job
In addition to the general requirements, should provide a copy of an employment contract, employment appointment letter, and eventually a certificate of current employment in their country)
For those entering by car
If you travel by car, you will require a “carnet de passages en douane” and international insurance, which is valid in Cameroon. (Carnet de Passages en Douane (CPD) is a customs document that allows travellers to temporarily import their motor vehicles into a country without having to leave cash deposit at the border).
Visit for filming
A project letter must be submitted to the Embassy prior to visa application and all necessary documents confirmed.
For long term visa (residents and families)
- A Color copy of Marriage Certificate (for married persons only)
- On arrival in Cameroon, they would be expected to regularize their status with the Immigration Department.
Requirements for diplomatic & official visas (holders of diplomatic & official passports)
- Note Verbale;
- Diplomatic or Official Passport, valid for at least six (6) months + colored copy of the information page;
- Visa application form duly filled and signed;
- Passport-size photograph (color/white background);
- Invitation Letter/Mission Order (for those travelling for professional purpose and personal matter);
- Travel Booking declaration from a travel agency or e-ticket;
- Hotel reservation;
- Those traveling for employment should provide a copy of an official document indicating the reason for their stay (employment contract, employment appointment letter, …).

- The Presentation of required documents does not guaranty the issuing of a visa;
- The Embassy may request an applicant to appear for an interview;

For people who cannot come to the Embassy:
WITHIN JAPAN:
- Mail delivery service “takkyubin”. Write down your address on the collect sheet (”chakubarai”);
- Letterpack (you can find it at any convenience store or post office).
- For the fees, if you cannot send the cash, the Japan post office has the registered postal cash envelop “Genkin Kakitome”.
FROM THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, OTHERS:
- The Consular Section accepts visa applications by postal or express mail services.
- Visa fees and other fees are payable in cash (Japanese yen only).
- After processing your file, the pickup of your travel documents at the Embassy could be arranged by yourself.
- Usually, it costs ¥5,000 for the return mail by EMS, and ¥12,000 by DHL.
- If you already have an account number especially for collect (Payer Account Number), don’t forget to mention it on your DHL airway bill, Fedex or UPS.
- If you do not have an account number but use these services regularly, you could request their collect/pickup service.

NEW PROCEDURE FOR BIOMETRIC PASSPORT
The Ambassador of the Republic of Cameroon in Japan has the honor to inform the Cameroonian community that operations related to the new procedure for biometric passport are open from Friday 4 February 2022. Within the framework of the new passport production system introduced by the Government, three (03) main steps have to be followed:
STEP 1 – ONLINE PRE-ENROLLMENT
- The applicant should access the online pre-enrollment platform at https://www.passcam.cm and ‘Start pre-enrolling’ by signing up with his/her mobile phone number and email address.
- Once the applicant has accessed the platform he/she should follow the different phases and input the personal information accurately. The names and other information Must be filled out as in the birth certificate/most recent passport.
- The applicant should pay the passport fees of 110 000 CFA F by choosing one of the payment options of the platform.
- The last phase is to book an appointment for the physical enrollment. The applicants should carefully select the place he/she wish to enroll, which should normally be the Embassy of Cameroon in Tokyo-Japan*.
- The applicant has to print the Information Form/sheet that will be automatically generated at the end of the pre-enrollment process.
*Those living in Republic of Korea, Australia, New Zealand and Thailand should also choose the Embassy of Cameroon in Tokyo-Japan as the physical enrollment place.

STEP 2 – PHYSICAL ENROLLMENT AT THE EMBASSY
- PREPARING THE ENROLLMENT AT THE EMBASSY: Immediately after the online pre-enrollment and BEFORE visiting the Embassy on the day of appointment the applicant MUST send the following original documents to the Consular Section by Japan Post (letter pack & Genkin Kakitome ) and please inform the sending of documents by email (consular@cameroon-embassy-jp.org). : [1] – Copy of the Pre-enrollment information sheet [2] – Original of the Birth certificate [3] – Original of the CNI or the Consular Card [4] – Original of the Residence card (the two sides on the same page), [5] – Original of passport and color scanned copy of the biometric information page of the previous passport [6] – Original and color scanned copy of the Marriage certificate for married women. [7] – 12.000 yen. (Consular fees and Consular Card fees). [8] – Application for the Consular Card. (Please see below for the required documents.)——–>The original documents sent in advance will be returned to the applicant the day of the appointment or if you need the original documents immedately, kindly send two Leter Packs with your documents. The Embassy will return your documents after having legalized.
- The day of the applicant’s appointment, kindly come at the Embassy 5min before your appointment time. The applicant Must bring the pre-enrollment Information Form AND the originals of all the supporting documents if the Embassy doesn’t keep your documents (Please consult DOCUMENTS REQUIRED).
- On the day of the physical enrollment, the officer/agent will check the applicant’s documents and the information submitted online; scan the supporting documents legalized in advance; and print out the applicant’s complete Information Form.
- The applicant will be asked to verify the accuracy of the information contained in the information form and approve them by double signing the form.
- At the end of the process the applicant will receive a document proving that the application has been submitted.
STEP 3 – PASSPORT COLLECTION
- Following applicant’s physical enrollment, the application will be submitted online to DGSN/AUGENTIC for the validation of the said application and the production of the passport. It usually takes 48h to produce the passport and 2 weeks to ship it to the Embassy in Tokyo.
- Once the Embassy receives the passport, it will be registered online and an automatic message is sent to the applicant via mobile phone number/email registered during online pre-enrollment in Step 1.
The applicant will book an appointment directly with the Consular Section by email (consular@cameroon-embassy-jp.org) for the validation and collection of the passport.
Information for Cameroonian living in the REPUBLIC OF KOREA
- When pre-enrolling online, the applicant living in the Republic of Korea should select “Embassy of Cameroon in Tokyo-Japan” as the location for the physical enrollment. In practice the physical enrollment will be done at the Honorary Consulate of Cameroon in Seoul. However, since the Consulate works under the supervision of the Embassy, applicants are advised to choose the location “Embassy of Cameroon in Tokyo-Japan” when booking the appointment at the last stage of the online pre-enrollment.
- The Consular fees and the fees to ship the passport from Tokyo to Seoul amount 8000 JPY + 7000 JPY = 15 000 JPY. This amount has to be paid in Japanese yen during the physical enrollment at the Honorary Consulate.
- Online pre-enrolment can be done from 1st February 2022, but the physical enrollment will start at the Consulate in Seoul by 28 February 2022. Appointment should therefore be booked from 28 February 2022 onward.
NB: An appointment booked can be changed only ONE time by the applicant. Also, under exceptional circumstances the Embassy could apply to DGSN/AUGENTIC for a change of an appointment booked by an applicant.
Information for Cameroonian living in AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND AND THAILAND.
- When pre-enrolling online, the applicant living in Australia, New Zealand and Thailand should select “Embassy of Cameroon in Tokyo-Japan” as the location for the physical enrollment. Therefore, applicants are advised to choose the location “Embassy of Cameroon in Tokyo-Japan” when booking the appointment at the last stage of the online pre-enrollment.
- The Consular fees and the fees to ship the passport from Tokyo to Canberra/Wellington/Bangkok amount 8000 JPY + 7000 JPY = 15 000 JPY. This amount has to be paid in Japanese yen during the physical enrollment.
- Online pre-enrolment can be done from 1st February 2022, but the physical enrollment will depend on the date the applicant could visit the Embassy or on the scheduled date of the Embassy team visit in these countries. However, applicant could start booking appointment online from 7 March 2022 onward.
NB: An appointment booked can be changed only ONE time by the applicant. Also, under exceptional circumstances the Embassy could apply to DGSN/AUGENTIC for a change of an appointment booked by an applicant.

2. After examination of the documents by the consular office that takes around 10 days, the Embassy will publish marriage banns for a statutory period of 30 days.
If no objections are raised, the Embassy will issue marriage eligibility documents.
ISSUANCE OF CAMEROONIAN MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE

ATTENTION
A thorough screening of all documents (Birth certificates, passports, residence cards, family registry certificates, certificates of acceptance, certificate of divorce, …) submitted will be done in collaboration with competent authorities in Japan and in Cameroon in order to verify their authenticity. Simultaneously, signatures and other information contained in the forms dully filled will be verified as well.
Should the screening process reveal any false statement or declaration, inaccurate information, falsified documents or any other irregularities, the ongoing processing of the file will be automatically halted, and the application rejected.
MARRIAGE CELEBRATION AT THE EMBASSY

- Two witnesses for each four in total, it means, a head of family or his representative of husband, a head of family or his representative of wife, one witness for the husband and one witness for the wife.

BIRTH CERTIFICATE
ISSUANCE OF A CAMEROONIAN BIRTH CERTIFICATE
1/2 – Application for a Cameroonian Birth Certificate (Birth Declaration of a New born baby of up to 3 months old)
In accordance with the provisions of Law No. 2011/011 of 6th May 2011 Amending and Completing Certain Provisions of the Ordinance No. 81-02 of 29 June 1981, on the Organization of the Civil Status Registration in Cameroon, Cameroonians living in Japan and other countries covered by the Embassy must declare to the Embassy of Cameroon in Tokyo any birth concerning them. THE SAID DECLARATION WHICH STANDS FOR AN APPLICATION OF A BIRTH CERTIFICATE SHOULD BE MADE WITHIN A PERIOD NOT EXCEEDING NINETY (90) DAYS AFTER THE DAY OF BIRTH. The following documents should be submitted:
- A handwritten request (containing names, address and contacts of the applicant) ;
- A Form for Birth Certificate Application to be filled and signed (download HERE)
- Original of the baby’s declaration of birth issued at the Hospital and signed by the Doctor + colored copy and translation translated by licensed translation company in English or in French;
- Original of birth certificate of the father and the mother + colored copies;
- Original of Cameroonian Marriage Certificate of the parents + colored copy;
- Original of Cameroon National Identity Card if possible or Alien Card of the parents+ colored copy;
- Original of Passports of the parents + colored copy of the information page of each.
2/2 – Transcription of Birth Certificate for a child aged above 3 months (Foreign birth certificate transcription into a Cameroonian birth certificate)
In accordance with the provisions of Law No. 2011/011 of 6th May 2011 Amending and Completing Certain Provisions of the Ordinance No. 81-02 of 29 June 1981 organizing Civil Status Registration in Cameroon, Cameroonians living in Japan (and other countries covered by the Embassy) who did not declare a new birth within the first 90 days following the birth, are eligible to apply for a transcription of their child birth certificate (issued by the city council of the place of residence) into a Cameroonian birth certificate. The documents to be submitted are the following:
- A handwritten request (containing names of the applicant, country of residence, full address and contacts) ;
- A Form for Birth Certificate Application to be filled and signed (download HERE)
- Original of Birth Certificate of the child issue by the city council/Mayor of the place/country of residence + colored copy and an English/French by licensed translation company ;
- Original of birth certificate of the father and the mother + colored copies;
- Original of Cameroonian Marriage Certificate of the parents + colored copy;
- Original of Cameroon National Identity Card if possible or Alien Card of the parents+ colored copy;
- Original of Passports of the parents + colored copy of the information page of each.
- Application Processing time: 20 opening days
CASE WHERE BOTH PARENTS ARE NOT LEGALLY MARRIED or CANNOT PROVIDE A CAMEROONIAN MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE. Normally, the name of the father will not be written on the child’s Birth Certificate. However, If the father wishes his name to appear on his son/daughter certificate, he could apply for a Declaration of child recognition at the Embassy. In this regard, he will be requested to come at the Embassy with: (a) the child’s mother, (b) the new-born, and (c) two witnesses of which at least one should be preferably a Cameroonian national.

- The Birth certificate or the certified copy with 3 months validity ;
- 2 photos (passport size).

ATTESTATION OF NATIONALITY
- A handwritten request (containing names, address and contacts of the applicant) ;
- Original of the birth certificate + color copy ;
- Original of the passport and National Identity Card + color copy ;
- ¥500 for the fees for Einglish version and ¥3.500 for bilingal attestation.

APPLICATIONS BY MAIL
FOR PEOPLE WHO CANNOT COME TO THE EMBASSY,
Within Japan:
- For the fees, the Japan post office has the registered postal cash envelop “genkin Kakitome“.
- Provide for the return a self-addressed, pre-paid envelop “Letter pack” (you can find it at any convenience store or post office).
Out of Japan:
- Please do provide ¥5000 for the return mail by EMS or DHL (¥12.000)
- If you already have an account number especially for collect (Payer Account Number), don’t forget to mention it on your DHL airway bill.
- If you do not have an account number but use DHL services regularly, call DHL of your country to contact DHL JAPAN to request the collect service
